The Best Summer I Ever Had

For the past two months I’ve been an intern for Loosecubes, and I can’t believe it’s time for me to leave New York to prepare for my senior year at UNC. Before the summer started, I had a tough choice between interning for a huge advertising agency and a startup in Brooklyn with a full-time staff of 5. With my internship at Loosecubes at the close, I know I made the right choice because I don’t want to leave.

Working at a startup has been an invaluable experience. At Loosecubes, I have been trusted with responsibilities that would have been out of the question at huge firms. I’ve been able to freely share my ideas and thoughts, and I truly feel that I have participated in helping build a business (take that corporate America)! Working in a “full steam ahead” environment has allowed me to learn a lot about marketing, customer service, management, finance, and, surprisingly, myself.

Sure, we have a tent in our office and beer in the fridge, but just because we don’t take ourselves too seriously doesn’t mean we aren’t serious about Loosecubes. I’ve seen strategy discussions stretch way past quitting time on Friday afternoons and witnessed Anna answer customer service calls and emails around the clock. I’ve even caught myself checking our site analytics after going out on a Saturday night. When I first started I remember thinking, “Wow! These people are really into this Loosecubes thing.” Well, I guess I ended up drinking the Kool-Aid too.

Quick Facts About our Favorite Intern

    1. Favorite part of the job: Working around awesome people, whether it be Loosecubes staff or members that come cowork at the HQ. A quick laugh or a lunchtime conversation helps refresh the day and keep you productive.

    2. Favorite workspace: There are so many spaces I like, but if I had to pick one it would be the couch at Roomarama’s HQ.

    3. Funniest day on the job: Definitely Campbell’s birthday. Some happy hour drinks morphed into a makeshift dance party in the office complete with invisible double dutch and cheerleading jumps. Campbell’s got some serious ups.

    4. Favorite movie: Jurassic Park.

    5. One word you’d use to describe your internship: Amazing! (I absolutely want to work here)

Not only was she a great summer intern, but she’s also an entrepreneur of her own! Check out AVR’s business Tidewater Needlepoint, and get waisted with one of her awesome hand stitched, personalized belts. You can also keep tabs on her on Twitter. That is, of course, if you’re lucky enough to have her accept your follow request.
