    A Successful Lobby Day with
    the Freelancers Union

Yesterday over 50 members of the Freelancers Union, fueled by Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and enthusiasm, hopped on a 7AM bus (and a van) to Albany to lobby for support of the Freelancer Payment Protection Act. Upon arrival at the New York State Capitol, a small group of freelancers in their matching, red “squeaky wheel” t-shirts filed into the NY State Assembly’s Labor Committee meeting just in time to witness the bill get passed on to the Codes Committee. Everyone was really excited to see the legislation gaining traction, and from there, it only got better.

Throughout the rest of the day, groups of freelancers met with State Senators, Assembly Members, and legislative aides, to discuss the importance of this potential law and how it will help prevent unpaid wages. Testimonials were given, new co-sponsors signed on, and there was even a chance run in with Mayor Michael Bloomberg himself. All in all, it was an extremely successful day, and Loosecubes was happy to have been a part of the trip.

We’re hoping that with your support, we’ll be writing a blog post in the very near future about the bill being passed into law. Find out more here about how you can help grant freelancers the same protection as traditional employees.

That’s a lot of squeaky wheels.
